GIVING PROPER NOTICE WHEN QUITTING YOUR JOB I stuck with the traditional method of giving notice. I wrote a letter of resignation, and I delivered it by hand. There were no marching bands or flash mobs; it was just a conversation between my boss and me. It was a hard conversation to have because, as I mentioned, I like my boss, and she has been supportive during my time at the company. Conventional advice is that you give at least two weeks’ notice when leaving a job. And sometimes that is the most you can give when you have a new job waiting for you. But in my case I was leaving to work for myself, so I had some time and made a point of giving four weeks. I knew this would allow time to train others in the department on my responsibilities and to hand off any projects I was working on. I also hoped that I would get a few days with my replacement, so I could train that person on my job. When leaving, take into consideration a realistic timeframe for your job. For a professional level job, giving at least three or four weeks notice is a reasonable amount of time to complete outstanding projects and hand off your work. I didn't want to work full-time as I wanted to spend quality time with my little bundle of joythankfully we could afford to do so. The job that I returned to at a digital agency did not lend itself well to part-time working for me personally so I changed jobs, but it was a positive move for me. I know that I am making sacrifices in my career to give my son the best upbringing but he won't be little forever. I have a lot to offer an employer...now and when I have more time on my hands! Being a working mother makes you super organised with your time. When I am at work, I pack in so much. I have a large team to manage as well as my own workload with multiple digital projectsstakeholders. It's not easy and I do get stressed. I often find myself awake at night with anxiety about my to-do list...and an insomniac 3 year old! At times I get all zen about it and realise that I can only do what I can do, and I wouldn't change it as I love what I do and I am good at it. And I am good at my job. I am motivated, ambitious and self-directed in my learning meaning that I am confident in what I do. But it is not my priority. My sonmy family are my priority. I will never look back thinking that I should have worked more. But I will regret missing his nursery snowdrop walks and taking him to his wee football class! I think that there is a whole world of stigma surrounding working mothers...too many to even go into. You feel guilty all the time...I wonder if many working Dad's feel that way...or is that just a stigma too? Sometimes I feel like packing in my 'career' job to do something that I don't have to think about when I leave the office...but I would be bored! Yes, I am a mother, but I am a person too who is extremely capable. It's just a shame that there aren't many decent part-time career opportunities for working mothers. Employers are missing a trick! You get twice as much work done in half the time.

Being different does not work. 2. Practice self-awareness. This is a life-long task and every day you can become a little bit more aware of how people perceive you. Just doing your job is not enough. You need to do it in a way that makes a positive impression on everyone else. 3. Manage your stress levels so you can avoid emotional displays of inconsistent behavior and inconsistent messages. Most emotional outbursts come from unmanaged stress. 4. Be approachable all the time in your cube, in the hallway, even in the bathroom. 5. Network before you need to network. Being good at politics means that you are good at relationship building, and you can count on a wide range of people when you need them. But some people will never feel comfortable playing the political game. For those people, Stybel recommends a job where one can say, Leave me alone and still excel at the work: Sales would be a definite no, but a career in, say, programming might work.
